This song is part of an art exhibition - Loitering With Intent: The Art and Politics of Walking which runs July 23rd – October 14th 2016 at People's History Museum in Manchester.

For a detailed discussion of this piece see www.quietloner.com/2016/07/all-these-places-explained/

The song reflects on the North's industrial past and asks the listener to remember the neglected and abandoned objects, buildings and places associated with the Industrial Revolution.

The song is exhibited on cassette tape, a now antiquated format that reminds us that whilst technologies move on, traces of the old still have the ability to engage and affect us. It is shown alongside a framed artwork that is the songwriter's attempt to render the song lyrics in a visual format.

lyrics

ALL THESE MOMENTS (lyrics)

All the guilt in these things we built
Coukd fill the factories and mills
The weavers jewels, the spinning mules
The bobbins and bells

From the iron gorge to the cutlers forge
We heard the roar of machines
We kissed Brunel whilst Darby fell
Through the scorch of the steam

And don't forget to file all the moments we tried when we lost our way
And don't forget to map all these places despised and chased away

Like the old lead mines and the railway lines
That crossed these dales and fells
And all the miles of grand canals
Now laid with nature trails

And don't forget to file all the moments we tried when we lost our way
And don't forget to map all these places despised and chased away

All the chimneys that rise once set fire to these skies Now say good night

In reservoirs and old jam jars
In gnarly roots under trees
In spring headgerow in the tidal flow
You're a trace in the breeze
